Free Backpacks with School Supplies Giveaway

The new school year is underway for children across Ohio. While it can be an exciting time of year, it can also bring up worries, especially for students living in poverty. Did you know nearly 15% of Ohio residents live below the poverty line? Families struggling to fill basic needs, such as where their next meal is coming from, may not have the means to purchase school supplies. To help families in need, the law firm Kisling, Nestico & Redick (KNR) is giving away free backpacks filled with school supplies for the fifth year in a row.

On Thursday, 200 backpacks are being handed out to families across Ohio – 40 backpacks are available at each of the office locations, including:

·         Akron – 3412 W Market St, Fairlawn

·         Cleveland – 1111 Superior Ave. #520, Cleveland

·         Columbus – 2550 Corporate Exchange Dr. Ste. 101, Columbus

·         Toledo – 4853 Monroe St Bldg. B Ste. 3, Toledo

·         Youngstown – 22 E McKinley Way Ste. A, Poland

Backpacks with various supplies are being given away on a first-come, first-serve basis during office hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The giveaway will continue during business hours until supplies are gone. Families are asked to take only one per child.

“We’re excited to continue this annual tradition at KNR by giving away backpacks to children in need. It’s always wonderful to surprise families with this kind of donation and know you’re making a small difference to help kids with a great school year,” said Rob Nestico, KNR managing partner.

Each backpack, valued at approximately $54, has the most requested items by elementary school teachers. The backpacks, contributed by W.B. Mason, are filled with pencils, pens, notebooks, markers, glue, paper, scissors, crayons and other fundamental supplies.

And, that’s not all. KNR also:

·         Participated in the annual Stuff the Bus event and donated 25 backpacks to support the Cleveland Kids in Need Resource Center, which serves children across Cuyahoga County

·         Gave away 25 backpacks via KNR’s Facebook page to families across Northeast Ohio.

The school supply giveaway is part of KNR Cares About Kids, a yearlong campaign allowing the law firm and its employees to give back to the community in concrete ways. Over the past five years, the firm has raised/contributed more than $375,000 for local charities and organizations.
