Asistencia jurídica para personas lesionadas.
Even when riding responsibly, bikers in Ohio are far more exposed to catastrophic injuries than automobile drivers. Sadly, insurance companies often take advantage of this vulnerability, unfairly blaming motorcyclists or minimizing the seriousness of their injuries. That is why having an Ohio motorcycle accident lawyer who knows how insurers treat riders is essential.
At Kisling, Nestico & Redick (KNR), we have spent more than 20 years standing up for injured motorcycle riders across the state. Whether your crash occurred in heavy Cleveland traffic on I-90, at a busy Columbus intersection, or along I-75 through Cincinnati and Dayton, our personal injury lawyers know the roads, the courts, and the challenges Ohio motorcyclists face. With 12 statewide offices, decades of experience, and a long record of results, KNR is ready to help you recover.

KNR knows these tactics since many of our attorneys once defended insurance companies. Today, we use that knowledge to anticipate their arguments, counter unfair blame, and build strong cases. From investigating your crash and consulting experts to negotiating with insurers and representing you in court, we build the case the insurer expected you not to have.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, left-turn and failure-to-yield crashes consistently rank among the top causes of rider injuries and fatalities. But motorcycle crashes in Ohio can happen anywhere, on congested interstates, rural highways, or city streets.
In our experience, another driver’s negligence is the root cause of most Ohio motorcycle crashes, not the rider. Proving it requires a strong legal strategy.
While reckless drivers cause most of the motorcycle accidents we see in Ohio, you can also be in a devastating wreck due to the careless actions of others who are not actually on the road.
For example, accidents frequently occur between motorcyclists and road debris. Hazardous debris can be negligently left by maintenance workers or fall off vehicles whose cargo was not properly secured. Since motorcycles lack an exterior body like a car or truck, even a low-speed impact with a hazardous object can result in a devastating crash.
If you or a motorcycle passenger were injured in an accident involving debris on the road, you may be entitled to recover damages from the party who made the road dangerous.
How a crash happened shapes who is liable and what evidence matters. The collisions we see most often in Ohio:
Motorcycle accidents involving multiple vehicles can be especially complicated. Chain-reaction collisions, highway pileups, unsafe lane changes, and secondary impacts can leave riders seriously injured while drivers and insurance companies dispute responsibility.
KNR represents motorcyclists injured in multi-vehicle accidents throughout Ohio, investigating how crashes occurred and identifying potentially liable parties.
Liability may be shared among multiple drivers, such as when one driver causes the initial collision, and another contributes to subsequent impacts. Under Ohio’s comparative fault rules, injured motorcyclists may be able to pursue compensation from multiple at-fault parties, depending on the evidence and applicable law.
KNR reviews crash reports, photographs, vehicle damage, available video footage, and other evidence to establish fault, evaluate insurance coverage, and pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other accident-related losses.
Insurers use Ohio’s rules of the road to argue riders are partly to blame. Knowing what the law actually requires takes that argument away, and our page on Ohio motorcycle safety laws covers each rule in detail.
Ohio does not require every rider to wear a helmet. Helmets are required for riders under 18, for riders in their first year of licensure, and for their passengers. If you were not required to wear one and chose not to, you broke no law, and an insurer cannot refuse your claim because you were bare-headed. It may still argue that a helmet would have reduced a head injury, which is an argument we know how to answer.
Motorcycles’ narrow dimensions allow two bikes to share a lane, and Ohio law permits two motorcycles to ride side by side in one lane. Lane splitting, riding between two lanes of slow or stopped traffic, is a different thing and is prohibited on Ohio roads. Lane splitting is legal in some states, and riders passing through Ohio sometimes do not realize they are breaking the law. A rider who was lane splitting at the time of a crash may be assigned a share of the fault; a rider who was simply sharing a lane, or using the full width of a lane, was riding lawfully, and drivers often describe ordinary riding as lane splitting.
Ohio requires a motorcycle endorsement or a motorcycle-only license to ride on public roads, and riders must carry the same minimum liability insurance as car drivers. Those minimums are low, and a driver who carries only the minimum will not have enough coverage for a serious motorcycle injury, which is why your own uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage matters so much after a crash.
In Ohio, families lose loved ones to these devastating accidents every year, many caused by negligent or reckless drivers.
When fatal motorcycle accidents occur, surviving family members may pursue a wrongful death claim under Ohio law. This legal action is designed to hold negligent parties accountable and provide financial relief to families coping with loss. Available compensation may include:
That is why our team conducts an independent and thorough investigation after motorcycle related incidents, which may include:

Motorcycle accident compensation claims may include your:
Most motorcycle accident claims in Ohio resolve through settlements, but that does not mean victims should accept the first offer. What counts as fair compensation after an Ohio motorcycle accident depends on the injuries, the coverage, and the evidence. Insurers often delay, deny, or undervalue valid claims, especially when relying on “biker bias” to suggest motorcyclists are at fault.
At KNR, our legal team carefully documents the true cost of your accident, from immediate medical bills to long-term care and lost earning capacity. If the insurer refuses to negotiate fairly, we are prepared to file a lawsuit, which can:

You generally have two years from the date of your crash to file a personal injury lawsuit under Ohio law (O.R.C. § 2305.10). If you’re filing a wrongful death claim, the clock starts on the date of death. Missing this deadline could mean you lose your right to compensation entirely.
You can, but it often works against you. Insurance companies know most people don’t understand the true value of their claim or the tactics insurers use to reduce payouts. Without an attorney, you may accept far less than you deserve, or have your claim denied entirely. A lawyer levels the playing field and ensures your rights are protected.
Ohio follows a modified comparative negligence rule. You can recover damages as long as you are 50% or less at fault for the crash. However, your compensation is reduced by your percentage of fault. If you are more than 50% responsible, you cannot recover. Insurers often exaggerate fault to reduce payouts, making it crucial to have a lawyer.
If multiple drivers were involved in your motorcycle accident, more than one party may be responsible for your injuries. Ohio’s comparative fault laws allow liability to be apportioned among at-fault parties based on the evidence. KNR can investigate the crash, identify potentially liable drivers, and pursue compensation from the responsible parties and applicable insurance policies.
Every case is different. A straightforward claim with clear liability may settle in a few months, while complex cases involving serious injuries, disputed liability, or multiple parties may take a year or more. Some claims resolve only after a lawsuit is filed and discovery or trial proceeds.
No. Ohio does not permit riding between lanes of slow or stopped traffic. Two motorcycles may share a lane side by side, and a rider may use the full width of a lane, but passing between cars in adjacent lanes is not allowed. If you were lane splitting when the crash happened, expect the insurer to assign you a share of the fault; if the driver is describing lawful riding as lane splitting, that is an argument we know how to answer.
