Elissa Wool, a talented student from Green High School in Uniontown, Ohio, captivated our scholarship panel with her insightful and impactful approach to addressing the pressing issue of distracted driving—a critical safety concern in Ohio and nationwide.
Elissa’s winning submission featured a striking billboard design that vividly communicates the dangers of texting while driving. The billboard stands out with a bold black background accentuated by yellow and red hazard stripes along the edges, effectively conveying a sense of urgency and caution. At its center is a powerful message: “Sending that ‘LOL’ might make you DOA. Don’t drive distracted.” This direct and compelling warning is crafted to resonate deeply with drivers, urging them to rethink their phone usage while on the road.
In addition to the billboard design, Elissa proposed a comprehensive community outreach plan that includes initiatives in local schools and engaging social media campaigns. This multifaceted approach highlights her dedication to raising awareness and fostering a culture of safe driving within her community.
Elissa is not only a passionate advocate for safe driving but also an ambitious student with big dreams. She plans to study Environmental Science and French at The Ohio State University, aiming to build a career as an environmental specialist. Her commitment to service and community involvement is evident in her active participation in various leadership roles, including her work with the French Club and the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA).
Her volunteer efforts with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the Green Schools Foundation have further demonstrated her dedication to making a positive impact. Elissa’s achievements have been recognized with several accolades, including the prestigious Bulldog Character Award and the Ohio Seal of Biliteracy in French.
“It is inspiring to see young individuals like Elissa tackle critical issues with innovative solutions,” said John J. Reagan, Managing Partner at KNR. “Distracted driving is a well-known danger for Elissa and her peers, and her commitment to enhancing road safety embodies the spirit of this scholarship and the values championed by Robert Redick.”
The Robert Redick Memorial Scholarship awards $5,000 to support Elissa’s tuition and educational expenses. This scholarship not only acknowledges her hard work and dedication but also honors the memory of Robert Redick and KNR’s ongoing commitment to combating distracted driving.
Kisling, Nestico & Redick congratulates Elissa Wool on this well-deserved honor and eagerly anticipates her bright future. We are proud to support young leaders who are dedicated to making their communities safer.
