Our LocationsA personal injury law firm in Ohio is offering families the opportunity to participate in children’s swimming lessons for free through a memorial fund honoring a 15-year-old drowning victim.
Kisling, Nestico & Redick, also known as KNR, established the Nanye Barber Tribute Fund in an effort to provide free swimming lessons to children across Ohio who may not have access.
The Nanye Barber Tribute Fund was established after 15-year-old Nanye Barber died after drowning in an indoor public pool. KNR pursued a lawsuit against the pool owner and operator responsible to recover damages for Barber’s family.
After the case was settled, Barber’s mother, Darnita Timmons, expressed her wishes to prevent other families from experiencing the same loss. Thus, the program was created to give children across Ohio access to water safety education and swimming lessons.
“This is more than just teaching kids to swim,” said Managing Partner John J. Reagan at KNR.
Reagan continued,” It’s about safeguarding futures and ensuring no family has to experience the pain of losing a loved one to a preventable tragedy. We’ve seen too many companies fail to protect their guests and the general public, and that is why accountability isn’t just a legal obligation, it is a moral one.”
Nominations for free swimming lessons at 10 different swim schools across the state are open until May 22.
Swim schools include:
Applications can be found on the KNR website here.
“My deepest wish is that no other family has to endure the pain and loss we have experienced,” said Timmons.
Timmons continued,” While nothing can bring my son back, I hope that sharing his story will encourage other parents to take swim lessons and water safety seriously. I am deeply grateful to Kisling, Nestico & Redick for honoring my son’s life with their generous donation of swim lessons.”
Those selected by the KNR office from the applications submitted will be contacted directly by the firm’s office.
KNR typically covers personal injury cases related to car, truck or motorcycle accidents, dog bites, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation and more.
In the Mahoning Valley region, KNR has a location in Poland, located at 22 East McKinley Way, Suite A.
