KNR Donates Backpacks Filled with Food to School in Parma Heights

Cleveland – More than 1 in 5 children, or 83,000, in Greater Cleveland are food insecure, according to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Many of those children receive free lunches at school but when school is closed, such as during spring break, many go hungry. To make sure children do not go hungry, attorneys and staff from Kisling, Nestico & Redick (KNR) provided 60 backpacks filled with essential food items to keep students fed during spring break.

KNR dropped off the donations, which total more than $1,200, at Greenbriar Middle School in Parma Heights on Thursday. The backpacks filled with food include bread, fresh fruit, peanut butter, mac and cheese and more.

“Spring break is meant to be a time for kids to relax but for some, it’s filled with more stress worrying about where their next meal will come from,” said Rob Nestico, KNR managing partner. “We realize hunger doesn’t take a spring break and we wanted to provide the essentials so kids can focus on being kids.”

The students and staff at Greenbriar Middle School were thankful for the donation. “Caring about our kids doesn’t stop when they leave school for the day. We’re always trying to help ensure they’re prepared for whatever they may be overcoming outside our walls too,” said Jill Schissler, principal at Greenbriar Middle School. “Being able to provide services for our families in our Greenbriar community is one way we can accomplish that, and KNR’s donation will help provide food security for our students.”

This initiative is a part of KNR’s year-long campaign, KNR Cares About Kids, which is focused on helping kids throughout Ohio reach their full potential. The law firm hopes its efforts will inspire others in the community to jump on board and pay it forward. KNR encourages others to share their deeds on social media using #KNRCares.
