YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A law firm is funding free swim lessons for children in honor of a 15-year-old who drowned in 2021.

Kisling, Nestico & Redick (KNR) announced that applications are open for the lessons.

The effort is part of the Nanye Barber Tribute Fund, established in 2024 following the drowning of Nanye Barber. Created in partnership with Nanye’s mother, Darnita Timmons, the fund honors his memory by helping prevent future water-related tragedies.

“As KNR celebrates 20 years of service to the people of Ohio, we remain focused on giving back in meaningful ways,” read a statement from Nomiki P. Tsarnas, senior partner at KNR. “Nothing matters more than protecting children, and through this fund and in Nanye’s name, we’re providing children across the state with the life-saving gift of water safety.”
