Local Law Firm’s Annual Turkey Giveaway is a Success with Help of Community

Akron, OH – Today, Kisling, Nestico & Redick (KNR) held its annual Coats & Cans for Kids Turkey Giveaway. One thousand families were given a turkey in exchange for donating gently used coats and non-perishable food items to help families in need this holiday season.

“Today is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Rob Nestico, managing partner of KNR. “It is truly amazing to see the community come together to help each other through the holidays.”

KNR began the turkey giveaway in 2013 to bring the community together and encourage everyone to help their neighbors. With the assistance of the community and their donations, KNR collected enough cans and gave out enough turkeys to help provide 87,200 meals. The cans will be donated to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, in addition to the $20,000 donation made by KNR earlier this month.

“In Summit County alone, more than 19% of children are food insecure,” said Dan Flowers, Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank president and CEO. “That’s at least 22,570 children who don’t know where their next meal is coming from – and that’s only one of the counties we serve. It takes our communities coming together to ensure these children and their families have daily meals and a special holiday, too. We’re thankful the KNR team comes together each year to hand out turkeys and gather food for our neighbors in need.”

In addition to the turkeys and canned goods, KNR collected more than 400 coats that will help children served by Providence House and May Dugan Center stay warm through what’s predicted to be a rough winter. Providence House is a crisis nursery committed to child abuse prevention and family preservation and the May Dugan Center is an organization that provides wraparound programs to aid clients as they move out of poverty.

“The holidays can be a stressful time, but the care and generosity our neighbors showed to one another today is uplifting,” said John Reagan, senior partner at KNR. “We hope that together we can make a difference for those in our community who need it most and inspire giving throughout the holidays.”

To date, KNR has helped provided more than 443,000 meals through the Coats & Cans for Kids Turkey Giveaway.
