On February 3rd, 2023, a Norfolk Southern freight train carrying various hazardous chemicals derailed, leading to the evacuation and contamination of the area. According to the NTSB and EPA, one of the hazardous materials involved was vinyl chloride, a recognized carcinogen, which is highly unstable.
