KNR represented the estate of a man who died of atherosclerotic heart disease. The man had a medical history of right, lower extremity reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), obesity, depression, and severe sleep apnea. He suffered severe pain, which was poorly controlled, leaving him sleep-deprived. The pain service physician did not order continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy during admission to the hospital as CPAP was self-administered without supervision.
The patient brought his CPAP machine to the hospital, but there was not a CPAP order to be found on the chart. The nursing staff failed to notify the physician when he began exhibiting signs of wheezing, leaving the patient without IV access. KNR attorneys settled the case for $175,000.
