Akron, OH – Santa came early to some Akron residents as nearly two dozen families had their Walmart layaways paid off. However, this time Santa went by the name Kisling, Nestico and Redick (“KNR”). The law firm spent more than $5,000 to try to make the holidays a little brighter for families who may not have been able to afford presents to put under the tree. Team KNR paid off layaways that would have been canceled for nonpayment as they had already passed the deadline, and loaded up all of the toys into their sleigh. Today and tomorrow, KNR is making deliveries to the chosen families.

Team KNR already started receiving hugs when they announced the news to a few shoppers on-site at the Walmart on Arlington Road in Akron on Tuesday. “Thank you and God bless you. I didn’t know how I was going to pay for these presents and this is truly a blessing,” said customer Shavona Bailey. Another recipient, Lea Knowles, had $500 of items paid off. “This is beyond wonderful. It’s hard to explain the journey I’ve been on and the amount of stress I’ve been under trying to figure out how I was going to purchase presents; this is everything we needed, thank you KNR.”

The donation is part of KNR’s 31 Days of Giving in December. Team KNR kicked off its month-long giving initiative by sending dozens of handmade cards to 10-year-old Oliviah Hall of Ashtabula who has been battling a rare form of brain cancer. 31 Days of Giving continues throughout the month as the grand finale to KNR’s 12-month campaign, KNR Cares, which is a commitment to give back to the community each month in celebration of the firm’s twelve-year anniversary.

“It’s heartbreaking to know there are some families in Northeast Ohio struggling to give their children a joyful holiday,” said Rob Nestico, managing partner at KNR. “There is nothing better than putting a smile on a child’s face and we embrace any opportunity we have to make a difference. We hope this will improve the holidays for these families and will inspire others in the community to jump on board and pay it forward. No act of kindness is too small; everyone can make a difference.” In the spirit of inspiring others, KNR encourages people to share their own good deeds on social media using #KNRCares and #31DaysofGiving.

In addition to the layaway payoffs and handmade cards, here are other ways KNR is giving back across Ohio during the 31 Days of Giving:

  • Medina County SPCA – donated time and supplies for the shelter’s animals
  • White House Fruit Farm in Youngstown – surprised guests by purchasing their carriage and wagon rides, as well as delicious snacks
  • Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery – in observance of National Day of Mourning, placed holiday wreaths on veterans’ graves in tribute to all those who have served us
  • Akron’s Tent City – delivered dozens of breakfast sandwiches and warm coffee to residents
