When truck drivers are distracted, even for a moment, the consequences can be devastating. Truck accidents often lead to severe injuries, or worse. A truck accident on U.S. Route 6 recently caused a chain of accidents that ultimately took the life of one person. In addition to the freightliner, a commercial truck, school bus and a minivan were involved in the multi-vehicle wreck.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a school bus was eastbound on the highway with a commercial truck traveling behind it. The school bus apparently stopped to turn left onto another road, and the commercial truck slowed down behind it. A freightliner that was traveling in the same direction, apparently failed to slow down and struck the commercial truck. The freightliner jackknifed, and its trailer hit the bus.

The freightliner then careened into the westbound traffic lanes, smashing into a minivan. The 57-year-old driver of the minivan was killed on impact and was declared dead at the accident scene. The only occupants of the bus were the driver and three adult passengers, and none were injured. The driver of the commercial truck was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and the driver of the freightliner suffered no injuries.

Whenever loved ones are killed in truck accidents — or any other accidents — on Ohio roads, the surviving family members may be entitled to pursue compensation for end-of-life expenses and other financial losses. With sufficient evidence of negligence on the part of another party, along with proof of financial losses, a wrongful death claim may result in a monetary judgment. When a truck driver who is on the job negligently causes an accident, his or her employer as well as any separate owner of the truck may also be named as defendants in any civil litigation arising from the crash.
